The Korbach Synagogue and School<\/h1>\n

The former Synagogue<\/h3>\n

The synagogue was located at 5 Tempel Strasse, and was connected to the Jewish School that also had been the home for Moritz and Rosa and Manfred Goldwein. The buildings were destroyed on Kristallnacht, November 9, 1938.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The walk to the former Synagogue<\/h3>\n

We had to store the Torah in our hotel the evening before the Bar Mitzvah since it could not be transported from Gudensberg on Shabbat. So, walking the Torah from our hotel to the synagogue was a historic event. The last this had happened was likely by Eric’s Great-Grandfather as he removed the scrolls from the synagogue prior to Kristallnacht in 1938. A letter he wrote in 1939 suggested he had saved two of the scrolls. What happened to them after that is a mystery<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

The Synagogue site<\/h3>\n

On the former site of the synagogue stands a nursery school. The small building where the ceremony was held was the site of the former school that was connected to the synagogue.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
